ENGLISH: Walterio Iraheta was born in San Salvador on June 5, 1968. He graduated from the National Center for the Arts of San Salvador. He studied applied arts from 1984-1986 in the José Mathias Delgado University of San Salvador from 1991-1995. In 1997, he earned a special scholarship from the Chicago Cutural Center to study there. His grand debut was in the Young Talent Exhibition of 1992 commission by Galeria 91 in San Salvador. In 1996 he won the official National Prize in the category of young artists of El Salvador. In 1998, he won First Prize in the “Bienal Centroamericana”. Since 1992, Iraheta has participated in many different national and international exhibitions, amongst them, the Exposition of Young Talent in the PromArt Gallery in Tokyo of 1994. He also displayed his art in the Tercer Salón Iberoamericano hosted by the Organization of American States in Washington DC in 1995. In 1996, 97, and 98 he participated in the Seventh, Eighth and Ninth Annual Exposition of Latin American Sculpture and Fine Art in the Galeria Espacio of San Salvador. As of 1999, Iraheta has done seven personal art expos in Guatemala, Honduras and El Salvador. His works have garnered many articles and have been mentioned in a variety of books, inluding: Art Nexos, Colombia; Universidad de la UNAM de México; and Revista Tendencias, San Salvador. Iraheta also serves as a professor at the José Mathias Delgado University and manages the Center of Drawing of El Salvador.
ESPAÑOL: Nasció en San Salvador en 5 de junio de 1968. Se graduó en el Centro Nacional de Artes de San Salvador.Estudió artes aplicadas (1984-1986) en la Universidad José Mathias Delgado en San Salvador(1991-1995). En 1997 fue becado por Chicago Cultural Center para estudiar grabrado en esa ciudad.
Debutó con exito en la exibición ¨Joven Talento del ano -1992¨ ortogado por Galeria 91 en San Salvador.
En 1996 ganó el Premio Nacional de Pintura Joven de El Salvador.
En 1998 gana el primer premio en la ¨Bienal Centroamericana¨.
premio unico ¨Certamen Latinoamericano de Pintura , Juannio-99¨,Guatemala, 1999.
Desde 1992 participa en diferentes exposiciones nacionales y internacionales, entre ellas; Feria de Pintura Joven en la Galeria Promo Arte, en Tókio- 1994, Tercer Salón Iberoamericano en Artes Plásticas, en la O.E.A, Washington - 1995,Setima, Octavo y Novena Muestra de Pintura y Escultura Latinoamericana, Galeria Espacio, San Salvador- 96,97 y 98.
Hasta la fecha ha realizado siete exposiciones personales: Guatemala, El Salvador y Honduras.
Sobre su obra se ha escrito y publicado artículos en algunas revistas, tales como:
Art Nexos- Colombia, Universidad de la UNAM de México, Revista Tendencias, San Salvador.
Actualmente es catedrático de la Universidad José Mathias Delgado y dirige el Centro de Dibujo de El Salvador.
